Late Afternoon at Lake Murray – A Mission Trails Series
Posted on
There’s a special kind of contentment that settles in during a slow summer walk in the late afternoon—when the sun is warm but gentle, the breeze soft, and the world feels calm.
Lake Murray, part of Mission Trails Regional Park, has long been one of my favorite places for a peaceful nature stroll. Tucked right into the middle of the city, it always feels like a quiet escape—familiar, welcoming, alive.
This time, I brought my Nikon 70–300mm lens with me, hoping to capture birds along the lake's edge. I only wandered for an hour, but even in that short span, nature offered its quiet wonders.
- Couple of curious Killdeer birds near the water’s edge
- A Monarch butterfly dancing in the breeze
- Cattails glowing with shades of green and bronze
- A Dragonfly pausing on the sun-warmed wood chips

Wildlife is never far here—from birds and bunnies to lizards, squirrels, and snails. In spring, the trails bloom with wildflowers, and even now, soft tufts of buckwheat are still holding on.
No grand adventure. Just a warm walk at the end of the day—full of small, beautiful moments.
